Unlike a hearing aid, a cochlear implant is a device which is surgically installed in the inner ear and bypasses the damaged parts of the auditory system to directly stimulate the hearing nerve. This allows a severely hearing impaired or deaf person to receive sounds. Hearing aids make sounds louder, which in some cases is a good thing. People who have lost their hearing at a later age in life are better candidates for hearing aids and younger individuals such as children are more likely to do well with a cochlear implant.
As many as 59,000 people worldwide have cochlear implants according to the National Institute of Health and approximately half of them are part of the pediatric population. The number of hearing impaired and deaf individuals around the world, who may use hearing aids, is harder to put a number on.
According to the Better Hearing Institute (BHI), the latest research, published in July 2005, put the number of hearing impaired or deaf individuals at roughly 31.5 million Americans. They break it down as follows – one in six baby boomers (ages 41-59) or about 14.6 percent have a hearing problem and most of these people are still members of the workforce. One in 14 ‘Generation Xers’ (ages 29-40) or 7.4 percent are already experiencing a hearing problem and at least 1.4 million children (ages 18 and younger) are having hearing problems.
It is not the hearing aid prices that keep people from wearing hearing aid devices; it’s the inconvenience and the simple fact that many people are vain. They don’t mind wearing eyeglasses when they know the glasses will help them to see better in addition to enhancing their look; however, people who get a hearing aid think it makes them look older or feeble and this is why people who need hearing aids are against them.
Hearing aids give people the opportunity to hear a lot of what they have been missing; birds, dogs, the difference in people’s voices and the list goes on and on.

A countless number of adults, as many as 10 to 15 percent according to one study, suffer from prolonged tinnitus which is a perceived sound in your head when there is no outside noise or sound present, this is the definition given by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. That is a large number of the population, and unfortunately many of them feel as if they are going crazy because no one else hears the noises and sounds that they distinctively hear on a continuing basis.
Hearing aids may help those suffering form tinnitus because according to many otolaryngologist, an ear nose and throat doctor, tinnitus is a side effect of hearing loss. The sounds could be heard as a ringing, chirping, whooshing, whistling or other annoying sound that are seemingly relentless and described as driving a person ‘crazy.’
According to the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, tinnitus could be caused by a treatable problem like excessive ear wax or allergies; however if all avenues have been explored, a consultant with an audiologist to possibly be fitted for a digital hearing aid would be a good idea.
This may sound unusual but as said by many hearing doctors, when the brain is deprived of sound input from the ears, it may compensate by creating its own sound in the form of a whistling, ringing or other usually high pitch tone. This is a side effect of the hearing loss so treatment with a hearing aid could be all that’s needed to make the annoying sounds disappear.
Some hearing doctors feel that other devices, including ones that create sounds or music to mask the tinnitus and retrain the brain, could also be used, sometimes with or without a conventional hearing aid. Some people find relief by playing soft music in the background or using a noise machine to create soothing sounds. Alternative therapies such as acupuncture, vitamins and relaxation techniques are all being studied as possible cures for this bothersome condition.
Other doctors feel that this condition may be caused by one’s environment, if they work in or around loud noises or attend several loud concerts per year. Sometimes, this unusual yet very real condition fades with time and one day it will be gone just as mysteriously as it appeared.

In today’s recessionary times many people would like to start their own business in order to avoid a possible job loss, layoff or downsizing that is happening all across the country on a regular basis. The state of the economy is fueled with the fact that many people are losing their jobs because consumer spending has dropped off to nearly a trickle instead of the flowing spending it used to be.
One business that seems to be recession proof is a candle company. Candles could be made from home because they do not require much effort or many materials to construct beautiful looking and smelling gifts for giving and gifts for oneself. Everyone needs candles in their home in case the electricity goes out in the storm and other people enjoy candles because of their wonderful smell or the ambience they help bring to a romantic occasion.
Some people cannot do without candles like they cannot do without hearing aids, they are part of their life and they are willing to spend whatever money it takes to purchase the candle that helps them to feel calmer and more relaxed in their own home than almost any other product. Room refreshing sprays only last a short time while candles, especially the large ones with three or more wicks, can last for hours and hours making a room smell wonderfully fresh and clean or like whatever fragrance the candle smells like. And isn’t that the whole idea of the candle, to make a room smell like the fragrance the candle has embedded in it.
Many people purchase their own candle making supplies so that they can fill jar candles with fresh and exotic smelling candle wax and then sell them online, in stores or at craft fairs for a reasonable price. Having one’s own candle making company would help someone who has lost their job make money to help pay the bills around their house in addition to keeping their house from foreclosure in these economic hard times which include a ghastly housing market.
By working from home with their own candle making company, an individual has low overhead. There is no need to pay rent on a space, in addition to all the utility bills. Also, a person who owns a candle making company in their own home may only have one or two employees if that many. The only other expense would be an insurance policy to make sure everyone is covered in case of accidents. In addition, shipping costs could be paid by the purchaser and many packaging companies, those who sell boxes and packing peanuts, would probably be willing to make a deal on bulk orders.
Owning one’s own candle company could help a person in these economic hard times by creating and selling something everyone wants or needs. Candles are not that complicated to create and the overhead is low; therefore a candle company makes a great idea for someone who has lost their job or for someone who wants to make extra money to help make ends meet.

A hearing aid company could optimize their business by using a website to offer information on hearing aids as well as information from an audiologist on the different types of hearing loss, such as acoustic trauma which is an injury to the hearing mechanism within the inner ear caused by excessively loud noises. There is also conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss and sensorineural hearing loss.
By giving people more information through an Internet website, a business is helping to empower their potential customers with information so they could make an informed decision about their health and the devices that would help them hear better. Hearing aids companies could also use search engine optimization or SEO to improve their customer database by bringing in more customers through the three major search engines. The three major search engines send out “feelers” in order to find keywords or keyword phrases within articles placed on Internet websites and then rank these websites according to a special formula. Keywords or keyword phrases are the words potential customers use in the search boxes on the search engines to find what they need or want. Having a high ranking on the search engines is beneficial to a business because the higher the ranking, the more people will click on a business’ website because the majority of people who use Internet search engines click on the first few recommendations brought back from the “feelers” because people believe the best or the most popular rankings are listed first.
The highest or most popular rankings that come back to the search engines webpages may just be a matter of having the most keywords or keyword phrases on their website according to their special formula and may not be the best website for this particular item.
Search engine optimization is a continual process; therefore one day a hearing aids company could be ranked number three on the search engine webpages and the next day they could be ranked number 18 because their competition has placed more keyword rich articles on their website.
By optimizing space on a business’ website, by placing useful information, diagrams and links to other places where a hearing impaired person could receive additional help, more customers would choose their website over a competition’s website for their hearing aid needs.
Another way to use a website effectively is to offer something for free that the newly hearing population - those who have just received hearing aids - could use. This could be something such as discounts on hearing products like flashing light bulbs that connect to the doorbell or the phone or free legal music downloads so they can begin listening to music either for the first time or again if their hearing loss is something that is new to them.
By optimizing a website’s space to include as much information as possible, a hearing aid company will help empower the hearing impaired with information they will use and need when make the proper choice for hearing aids.

Information on hearing aids should be placed on your website for those looking to purchase a hearing aid. Hearing aids are something people with a profound hearing loss use to help them hear better along with reading lips and sometimes sign language.
Having a website, even if you have a real world store, will help draw in customers and allow them to research information on hearing aids, especially the new digital hearing aid that has the latest technology and allows people to hear better than ever before.
Helping hearing impaired people choose the correct hearing aid for their hearing loss, in addition to working within their budget, will make your business one of the best. Ask your customers to write a short note about the treatment they received when searching for and being fitted for their hearing aids. You can then place this on your blog or your websites for others to read. People tend to buy from people they know do a good job, and the best way to spread the word is by using testimonials. If you have done a good job people will not mind writing on few paragraphs about the way they were treated.
Websites that have testimonials from previous customers do better than websites that do not have testimonials because people enjoy reading about other people’s experiences with the company they are considering doing business with.

If you have been in the military and have experienced loud noises or you are just getting a little older and your hearing is not what it used to be, a hearing aid is an excellent way to pick up that lost audio ability and allow you to hear the little things in life you are missing. With today’s technology hearing aids are small and unobtrusive and allow you to go through life normally hearing softer sounds without a large listening devise on your ear. Some are so small that they fit in the canal of the ear and is not seen at all by the public unless they are looking for it.
The common cause of hearing loss, besides older age, is being in an environment that has loud noises. Military personnel suffer a major portion of hearing loss because they are subjected to loud noises from fire arms, artillery, or aircraft. Though the young soldier, sailor, or marine may not recognize it at the time, their inner ear is slowly being damaged from the constant pounding of loud noises or the continual drone of a particular tone or pitch. If not damaged too much, hearing aids can bring back that high or low frequency and allow for normal or near normal hearing again.
Hearing aid prices are not as expensive as they used to be and hearing aid specialists can bring a new quality of life for those who have experienced hearing loss. How many times have you had to ask someone to repeat what they have said? You can miss subtle conversation or other important sounds if you are suffering from hearing loss. The sound of your granddaughter’s voice or the whisper of a lover can be lost forever unless you take the time and research how a hearing aid can bring back the important things in life.
Hearing aids are not just for the aged. Young people suffer hearing loss to. Either through birth or other circumstances in life, young people can suffer hearing loss that can take away not only the quality of life, but also opportunities in life. Without treating the loss and using a hearing aid, the young person could loose out on jobs, relationships, and even put their life at risk going through daily tasks. Driving a car or other vehicle could be a dangerous endeavor for those who have a hearing loss. The beep of a horn or the wail of a siren could be unheard and the danger of that one time of not hearing could cost a person their life.
If you are suffering from hearing loss, look into hearing aids as an alternative today. You can talk to your doctor, but there are many other alternatives. You can apply for a hearing aid online or shop around until you find the right hearing aid for you. The quality of life you are not experiencing is something that you can never get back. The term ‘sounds like a good idea’ applies to you looking for that hearing aid today.
